I remember when I first met my Suraya. She was the most beautiful girl that I have ever seen.

I was really shy to talk to her and I even thought to myself that I would never stand a chance with such a beautiful girl.
However, I am the luckiest guy in the world as she gave me a chance to show her my love for her.

Despite all my mistakes in our relationship – she’s given me so many chances – and I know I don’t deserve them. I am very grateful of her understanding of my shortcomings.

Suraya makes my life full. She fills my heart with joy and she’s the one that lets me know that no matter what happens, we’ll have each other to hold onto.

She means everything to me and I love her with all my heart!

Cape Town is a very (probably the most) diverse and cosmopolitan area in South Africa.

Two weeks ago, the Green Campus Initiative (GCI) at UCT promoted Green Week and they encouraged people to be “greener” for a week.
It was a great initiative that reminded people of the ways we could recycle, reuse and conserve.

This week is Pink Week – a week to celebrate “celebrate and promote sexual diversity”. Pink Week is hosted by RainbowUCT, a student-run lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) group.

Personally, I’ve never been too fond of homosexuals.
I used to be quite homophobic but have grown out of that since – as I’m comfortable with my (hetero)sexuality.

Usually, LGBTI is frowned upon by most organisations and societies and I find it quite interesting that they’re receiving so much support for UCT. The University’s even changed their website’s usual blue colour-scheme to pink.

RainbowUCT also covered the University with posters such as the one shown below:

Now I know that we’re in a democratic country and everyone (should) have freedom of expression and speech.
However, I don’t think that having these posters everywhere and in everyone’s face is a sign of freedom, but rather, it forces others (non-LGBTI) to accept their sexuality.

For Starters, I got my laptop that I talked about in the previous post – the Asus G73jh.
It’s really awesome. It’s fast, it’s sexy and it’s HUGE!

Second, I was elected onto the Smuts Hall House Committee and I got the portfolios that I wanted: IT and Memorabilia.

And for the main reason for this post…

A few minutes ago, I got a knock on my door, and I was wondering “who would be visiting this late?”
I opened the door and Njinu (Sorry If i spelt your name wrong) was holding some really old newspaper, match-boxes and cigarette boxes.
He told me that he and his friends went into the “hole” in the wall in the Smuts laundromat. The items that he showed me were from 1927! The newspaper is the “Cape Argus” dated September 13, 1927!

He gave it to me because I am the memorabilia representative. That made me chuckle, but nevertheless, I took them – only the newspaper though because the boxes looked quite dirty.

Smuts Hall was only established in 1928 – I’m speculating the the people who were building this place left newspapers and stuff lying around in the shaft.

The stupid maths department put a test on the day we return! – how gay is that?!
I really should be studying these days, but I haven’t been motivated to… I get easily distracted – especially when I’m at home.

I ordered the laptop I wanted last week Saturday – Asus G73jh. I was gonna get the Sony Vaio F series, but it wasn’t as powerful as the Asus – as I wanted a decent desktop replacement.

I ordered it off eBay – since it’s so much cheaper to buy from the US. It’s the first time I’ve purchased something that cost more than $350 off eBay – which is exciting…

I phoned the guy today and he said it should be delivered tomorrow – and it will arrive next week sometime… *fingers crossed*

and this is my speech I gave at the House Committee Interrogations

I was elected onto the House Committee for 2010/11!

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m studying a BSc (Bachelor of Science) in Computer Science at Africa’s top university – University of Cape Town.
I’m staying in Smuts Hall, the best (no, not opinion) residence, not only at UCT, but in the whole of Africa too!

However, I wasn’t dreaming about the actual end, but talks of how it will end. There are many theories and predictions on how and when will happen, but it’s all very sketchy and nothing seems quite reliable. All the ones I dreamed of were pretty funny.

Earlier this year, a few Christian Missionaries were on campus walking around with shirts saying that “Judgement Day is Near” and handing out flyers headed: “THE END OF THE WORLD IS ALMOST HERE!
HOLY GOD WILL BRING JUDGMENT DAY ON MAY 21, 2011″ (Click here to see it)

Now it got me thinking – I was really skeptical about it and although I’ve heard that judgement day or Armageddon is soon, I didn’t expect it to be so soon.
I didn’t really believe it. I consequently added a Google Calendar entry so that next year (2011) on May 20, my cellphone will remind me that it’s judgement day that following day.

But honestly, even if it was judgement day, what could we do?
Should we repent for our sins? Should we become Christian? Should we get ready to die? Say our prayers? Sleep?!

Ah, it’s so confusing. I dunno. Being agnostic (well, a little – dunno how you could be ‘a little’ agnostic… lol), I don’t seem to care much about these things.

Maybe I shouldn’t think about it – if it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it’ll just be another funny mis-predicted date that’ll make those that told it look like fools.

Funny though, while I was looking, I didn’t seem to come across anything interesting (or weird) that people did for the camera, except for this…

Yep, that’s outside Taipei 101 (world’s 2nd tallest building) – with Taiwanese people cheering as the Google image capture vehicle drove past.

Now that is awesome!
Or, they just love Google and Technology!

It’s been ages since I blogged. I heard somewhere that nearly a third of all blogs on the net have posts of how the blogger apologies for not blogging enough…

Well, I don’t wanna. (Apologize, that is…)

So, what have I been up to lately?
I’ve been writing exams and still have two more to go – Applied Maths on WED and Economics on THURS.. but all that stuff is boring. I mean, who wants to read about me writing exams. Right?! Right?

So what other stuff have I been doing?

I went out 2 days ago and bought myself a pair of earcup (over the ear) headphones. I’ve been wanting to get one for some time now – earphones were irritating me.

I got the Sennheiser HD 201 – and I must say, impressive performance and great bass at an affordable price. I was looking at the SkullCandy’s and they 1. were out of my price range and 2. are toys – expensive because it’s a ‘fashion statement’. I’m still wondering how Sony earcups perform.. hmm.

I’ve also been screwing around with my phone (HTC Hero). I’ve been downloading Android 2.1 ROMs off XDA because I was sick of waiting for the official HTC update (from the shipped 1.5) which they promised to release in April but then postponed to June. Installing the custom ROMs from xda however resulted in me flashing and reinstalling (ROMs) my phone multiple times – some ROMs caused the phone to freeze. Some were to unorthodox and others just plain s l o w!

In the end I settled with Freeyo’s ChronosDroid (v1.4.1). It’s fast, stable and overclockable.

I’ve also been watching a lot of “How I Met Your Mother”. I started earlier this year at the advice of some friends. I’m now finally on Season 5.

Today, well yesterday, I went to the UCT ICTS (information and communications services) laptop and gadgets showcase. I got to see, for the first time, the iPad IRL. wasn’t very impressed though – I see past the Apple hype. What I was impressed with however was the Dell Streak. It’s a 5″ Android 2.1 tablet phone! Running a snapdragon 1GHz processor. It was so smooth! – compared to my nimble Hero (with it’s humble 528MHz). But the downside is that it’s HUGE and would be more of a tablet than a viable phone (that you can put in your pocket)

I might get the HTC Desire though… same snapdragon processor, same 2.1 but a pocketable 3.7″. Oh and it’s HTC, which means it’s Made In Taiwan. A proudly Taiwanese innovation. Lol.

Other than that… I’ve been doing other mundane stuff like: eating, showering, doing laundry etc.

“What am I doing now?” you might ask…
I’m lying in bed, listening to Mozart through my awesome headphones whilst typing a blog on WordPress for Android on my HTC Hero…

And in approximately 5mins time, I’ll be in lalaland…
